State Well Report Autofill (Chrome Extension)

You already typed the well data once. The DrillerDB Chrome extension puts it into the state's online well report form so you do not type it again.

It works on the state agency's own website. You still review the form and you still hit submit. The extension only fills the boxes.

Quick Start

  1. Log in to app.drillerdb.com in Chrome.
  2. Open the state well report form on the agency's site.
  3. Type the Well ID into the DrillerDB Import box at the top right and click Import.
  4. Read the filled form, then submit it on the state's site.
  5. Come back and click Mark as submitted so the project's compliance status updates.

These are state forms. County and city permit forms are not part of the extension. For those, use the compliance tab on the project.

Before you start

  1. Use Google Chrome. The extension does not run in Safari or Firefox.
  2. Install the DrillerDB State Well Report Autofill extension.
  3. Log in to app.drillerdb.com in the same browser.

That last step matters. The extension pulls your well data using your DrillerDB login, so if you are logged out it has nothing to pull. There is no separate password for the extension.

Some states also need their own account, which is separate from DrillerDB:

  • Kansas needs a KOLAR login. Your contractor details come from KOLAR, not from DrillerDB.
  • Texas needs a TDLR/TWDB login. You also have to pick your driller and open a saved or new well report before the import will do anything.
  • South Carolina needs an SCDES ePermitting login.

Step-by-Step: Fill a form

  1. Open the state's well report form in Chrome and get to the page where you would normally start typing.
  2. Look at the top right of the page. A white box titled DrillerDB Import appears there once the extension recognizes the form.
  3. Type the Well ID or Permit # into the box.
  4. Click Import.
  5. The box says "Fetching data from DrillerDB", then "Filling form". Give it a second.
  6. Read the whole form before you submit it. Check the numbers against your own records.

If the DrillerDB Import box never shows up, the extension did not recognize that page. Check that you are on one of the forms in the table above and that you are past the agency's login screen.

Tables fill in too

Geology, casing, and the other repeating rows are filled in as well, not just the single boxes. Every state lays these out differently, so this is the part most worth a careful read before you submit. A row in the wrong order is easy to miss and annoying to fix after filing.

After you submit

Once you have filed the report on the state's site, tell DrillerDB about it. The DrillerDB Import box shows a Mark as submitted button after a successful fill.

  1. Type the state's confirmation number into the box if they gave you one. You can leave it blank.
  2. Click Mark as submitted.

This updates the compliance status on the project, so the well stops showing up as still owing a report. Skipping this does not break anything on the state's side, but your project will keep looking unfiled in DrillerDB.

When something goes wrong

"Please enter a valid Well ID (letters, numbers, hyphens)." The box is empty or has a character it does not accept. Retype the ID.

"Not logged in to DrillerDB. Log in at app.drillerdb.com and try again." Your DrillerDB session expired. Open app.drillerdb.com in another tab, log in, then come back and click Import again. You do not need to reload the state's form.

"This submission was already recorded in DrillerDB." You already marked this one as submitted. Nothing to do.

The form filled, but some boxes are still empty. The extension only fills what DrillerDB has. If a field is blank, the well record is probably missing that value. Fill it in by hand on the state form, then add it to the well log in DrillerDB so the next report has it.

A word of caution

Read the filled form before submitting it. The extension is a typing shortcut, not a replacement for checking your own work. You are the one signing the report.
