Creating Projects
Creating a new project in DrillerDB is straightforward. The system automatically assigns project IDs and sets up the necessary structure for tracking your drilling work from proposal to completion.
Create Project
Starting a New Project
To create a new project, click the "New Project" button from the Projects page. DrillerDB will automatically generate the next available project ID for your company. You can also specify a custom project ID if needed for your tracking system.
The system creates a new project with proposal status by default, allowing you to build out the details and pricing before sending it to your customer.
Required Information
When creating a project, you'll need to provide several key pieces of information:
Customer Selection: Choose an existing customer from your contact database or create a new customer record. The customer's business name or contact name will be associated with the project for easy identification.
Location Details: Enter the project site location including address, city, state, and county. This information is crucial for permit applications and field operations. You can also add GPS coordinates for precise location tracking and routing.
Well Type: Select the type of well you'll be drilling, such as residential, commercial, irrigation, or monitoring. This affects pricing calculations and regulatory requirements.
Project Details: Add any relevant project information including well depth estimates, drilling method, casing size, and special requirements. These details help your field crews prepare properly and ensure accurate quotes.
Setting Up Project Defaults
DrillerDB automatically populates new projects with your company's default pricing for common line items like drilling per foot, casing per foot, cement, and permits. You can customize these defaults in your company settings to match your standard pricing structure.
The system also pulls in default values for setup fees, drive shoe costs, well screens, and other common charges. This saves time when creating proposals and ensures consistent pricing across projects.
Saving Your Project
After entering the basic information, save your project to begin adding detailed line items and building your proposal. The project will appear in your projects list with proposal status, and you can continue editing until it's ready to send to the customer.
Once saved, the project becomes searchable and accessible to your team based on their permission levels. Office staff and administrators can view and edit all project details, while field technicians can access assigned projects for updates and reporting.
Next Steps
After creating your project, you'll want to add detailed line items to build an accurate proposal, configure billing information, and prepare the quote for customer approval. See the Project Details and Proposals sections for more information on completing your project setup.
