Daily Logs

How to create and manage daily log entries for field operations

Daily logs are a critical component of field operations in DrillerDB, providing a chronological record of work performed, equipment used, and conditions encountered at each project site. These logs serve as both operational documentation and historical reference for completed projects.

Creating Daily Logs

Field personnel can create daily logs directly from the project view or mobile interface. Each log entry captures essential information including the date of work, personnel on site, equipment deployed, hours worked, and detailed notes about the day's activities. The system automatically timestamps entries and associates them with the appropriate project and company.

Daily logs support rich text formatting, allowing field staff to provide detailed descriptions of work performed, challenges encountered, and solutions implemented. This flexibility ensures that important contextual information is preserved for future reference.

Equipment and Personnel Tracking

Each daily log can track multiple pieces of equipment used during the work day, along with the hours each piece of equipment was in operation. This data feeds into equipment utilization reports and helps with maintenance scheduling. Similarly, personnel hours are tracked per log entry, supporting accurate payroll processing and labor cost analysis.

The system validates equipment assignments to ensure accurate tracking. If equipment is marked as out of service or assigned to another project, the system alerts the user before allowing the assignment.

Notes and Documentation

The notes section of daily logs supports comprehensive documentation of field activities. Field staff can record details about drilling progress, geological observations, weather conditions, customer interactions, and any issues that arose during the work day. These notes become part of the permanent project record and can be referenced when preparing final reports or responding to customer inquiries.

Review and Approval

Office personnel can review daily logs in real-time as they are submitted from the field. This visibility enables better coordination and allows office staff to address issues or answer questions while the crew is still on site. Logs can be flagged for review if they contain unusual information or if clarification is needed.

Historical Reference

All daily logs are preserved as part of the project record and remain accessible after project completion. This historical data proves valuable for estimating similar future projects, resolving customer questions about work performed, and maintaining compliance with record-keeping requirements.
