Tower Up/Down tracking is a specialized feature in DrillerDB that records the precise times when drilling operations begin and end at a project site. This data provides crucial visibility into project progress and helps ensure accurate billing for drilling time.
Understanding Tower Up/Down
"Tower Up" refers to the moment when the drilling rig is fully set up and drilling operations commence. "Tower Down" marks the end of active drilling when the rig is secured and drilling has ceased. These timestamps create an accurate record of productive drilling time, distinct from total time on site which may include setup, breakdown, and waiting periods.
Recording Tower Up
When the drilling crew is ready to begin operations, they record a Tower Up event through the mobile interface or main application. The system captures the exact timestamp and immediately notifies office personnel through the real-time notification system. This instant notification allows office staff to update customers, coordinate deliveries, or address any last-minute needs.
Tower Up events can include optional notes about site conditions, equipment status, or any factors that might impact the drilling operation. This contextual information helps office personnel provide informed updates to customers.
Recording Tower Down
At the completion of drilling operations, the crew records a Tower Down event. This timestamp marks the official end of drilling and triggers several automated processes. Office personnel receive immediate notification, allowing them to update project schedules, prepare invoicing, and coordinate any follow-up activities.
The time between Tower Up and Tower Down represents the actual drilling duration, which may differ from scheduled time due to geological conditions, equipment issues, or other factors encountered in the field.
Automated Notifications
The Tower Up/Down system integrates with DrillerDB's email notification system. When configured, customers can automatically receive email updates when drilling begins and ends at their project site. These notifications improve customer communication and demonstrate transparency in operations.
Office staff also receive desktop and mobile notifications through the WebSocket real-time system, ensuring they're always aware of current field operations status across all active projects.
Reporting and Analysis
Tower Up/Down data feeds into project analytics, helping companies understand actual drilling times versus estimates. This information improves future project estimation and helps identify projects or geological conditions that require additional time allocations. The data also supports accurate invoicing by documenting actual drilling time rather than relying on manual time tracking.
