Contact Types
DrillerDB uses three primary contact types to organize your customers and business relationships. Understanding when to use each type ensures accurate record-keeping and enables efficient workflow management across your operations.
Owner Type
The Owner designation identifies property owners and primary customers who are commissioning well drilling projects. These are typically residential homeowners, farmers, business owners, or property developers who need a well drilled on their land. When you create a proposal or project, the Owner contact becomes the primary customer for billing and communication purposes.
Owners appear in customer-facing features like the customer portal and receive proposal notifications, project updates, and invoices. Use the Owner type for anyone who will be the direct recipient of your drilling services and financial responsibility for the project.
Builder Type
The Builder designation is used for construction companies, general contractors, and development firms who act as intermediaries in well drilling projects. Builders typically manage larger construction projects where well drilling is one component among many trades. They may be responsible for coordinating multiple contractors and handling payments on behalf of the property owner.
When working with builders, you often communicate project details and logistics with them rather than directly with the property owner. Builders may have preferred scheduling requirements, specific documentation needs, or standardized billing procedures. The Builder designation helps you identify these business relationships and manage them appropriately.
Pump Installer Type
The Pump Installer designation identifies businesses and technicians who install and maintain well pumps. These contacts are typically partners rather than customers. When you complete a drilling project, the property owner or builder will need to hire a pump installer to complete the well system installation.
DrillerDB can help you provide pump installer recommendations to your customers. The system includes features to find pump installers near a project location, making it easy to offer helpful referrals. Maintaining accurate contact information for pump installers strengthens these professional relationships and provides value to your customers.
Multiple Type Assignments
A single contact can have multiple type designations when they fulfill different roles in your business. For example, a property developer might be both an Owner for projects on their own properties and a Builder when managing construction projects for other clients. Similarly, a well drilling company might also offer pump installation services and need both designations.
When assigning multiple types, the system treats each designation independently. The contact will appear in filtered lists for each assigned type and will be available for selection in all appropriate contexts throughout DrillerDB.
Type-Specific Features
Each contact type enables specific features within DrillerDB. Owner contacts can access the customer portal, receive automated project communications, and process payments online. Builder contacts often have multiple associated projects and may require consolidated billing across properties. Pump Installer contacts appear in location-based search tools and referral features.
Understanding these distinctions helps you configure customer records correctly from the start, ensuring that each contact receives appropriate communications and appears in relevant workflows throughout your drilling operations.
