Frequent problems and their solutions

Common Issues

This guide addresses the most frequently encountered issues in DrillerDB and provides step-by-step solutions to resolve them quickly.

Login and Authentication Issues

Problems accessing your account or staying logged in:

Cannot Log In - If you're unable to log in with your credentials, first verify you're using the correct email address and password. Remember that passwords are case-sensitive. If you've forgotten your password, click the "Forgot Password" link on the login page to receive a password reset email. Check your spam folder if you don't see the email within a few minutes.

Session Expired Messages - If you frequently see session expired messages, your browser may be blocking cookies or session storage. Verify that cookies are enabled for DrillerDB and that you've added the site to your browser's allowed list. If you're using private browsing mode, switch to a regular browser window, as private mode prevents session persistence.

Two-Factor Authentication Problems - If you're having trouble with two-factor authentication codes, ensure your device's time is synchronized correctly. Authentication codes are time-based and require accurate system time. If codes aren't working, try generating a new code after verifying your device time or use backup codes provided during two-factor setup.

Google Sign-In Not Working - If Google authentication fails, clear your browser cache and cookies for both DrillerDB and Google accounts. Ensure third-party cookies are enabled, as these are required for OAuth authentication. Try disabling browser extensions temporarily, as some privacy extensions can interfere with OAuth flows.

Data Display Issues

Problems viewing or loading data correctly:

Data Not Appearing - If expected data isn't displaying, first refresh the page to ensure you're viewing the latest information. If specific projects or records are missing, verify your filter settings and search criteria haven't excluded the items you're looking for. Check that you have appropriate permissions to view the data.

Incorrect or Outdated Information - If you're seeing outdated information, hard refresh your browser with Ctrl+F5 (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac) to clear cached resources. If information still appears incorrect, log out and log back in to refresh your session and permissions.

Missing Images or Files - If images or files aren't loading, check your internet connection speed and stability. Large files may time out on slow connections. Try accessing the files from a desktop computer if you're on a mobile device with limited connectivity.

Formatting Problems - If the page layout appears broken or elements overlap, clear your browser cache completely. Ensure you're using a supported browser version - DrillerDB works best with current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.

Form and Data Entry Issues

Problems submitting or saving information:

Form Not Submitting - If a form won't submit, check for required fields highlighted in red that need completion. Ensure all field formats are correct, especially for phone numbers, email addresses, and dates. If you see a CSRF token error, refresh the page and try submitting again.

Changes Not Saving - If your changes aren't being saved, verify you have edit permissions for the record. Check your internet connection status - changes can't save without connectivity. Look for error messages at the top of the form that may indicate validation problems.

Upload Failures - If file uploads fail, check that your file size is under the maximum limit (typically 10MB per file). Verify the file type is supported - common formats like PDF, JPG, PNG, and DOC work best. Try compressing large images before uploading.

Special Characters Causing Errors - If you're entering data with special characters and encountering errors, avoid using symbols like quotes, brackets, or backslashes in free-text fields. Stick to standard alphanumeric characters when possible.

Performance Issues

Problems with slow loading or response times:

Slow Page Loading - If pages load slowly, check your internet connection speed. Close unnecessary browser tabs that may be consuming resources. Clear your browser cache to remove outdated resources that may conflict with current versions.

Timeout Errors - If operations time out before completing, try performing the action during off-peak hours when server load is lower. Break large operations into smaller chunks when possible, such as uploading files individually rather than in batches.

Browser Freezing - If your browser becomes unresponsive, you may have too many tabs open or insufficient system memory. Close other applications and browser tabs, then refresh DrillerDB. Consider using a computer with more RAM for better performance with large datasets.
