Project Map

Each project in DrillerDB includes its own dedicated map showing the precise job site location. This project-level map appears on the project details screen and provides focused geographic information for a single work location.

Viewing the Project Map

The project map displays automatically when you open a project record, appearing in the location section of the project details. If the project has valid GPS coordinates, the map shows a single marker pinpointing the exact job site location.

Projects without GPS coordinates show a blank map placeholder with instructions to add location data. You can add coordinates by entering an address, manually inputting latitude and longitude values, or using the map picker tool.

Map Display Features

The project map centers on the job site location at a detailed zoom level, typically showing the immediate surrounding area within a few blocks. This close-up view helps identify specific property features, access roads, and nearby landmarks.

The map marker uses a red pin icon to clearly mark the exact drilling or service location. This ensures field crews arrive at the correct property, especially important in rural areas where addresses may be ambiguous or GPS directions unreliable.

Satellite view is particularly useful on project maps, allowing you to see the actual property layout, identify access challenges like fences or gates, and spot potential equipment placement areas before arriving on site.

Interactive Features

Click and drag to pan around the map and explore the surrounding area. Use the zoom controls to adjust between property-level detail and neighborhood-level context. These manual controls help you assess the job site environment and plan equipment access routes.

The map includes a fullscreen button that expands the map to fill your entire browser window. This fullscreen mode is helpful when planning complex jobs or discussing site access with field supervisors.

Right-clicking the map opens a context menu with options to get directions to the site, view the location in Google Maps, or measure distances from the project location to other points of interest.

Street View Integration

When Google Street View is available for the project location, a small Street View thumbnail appears in the corner of the project map. Click this thumbnail to launch an interactive Street View pane showing ground-level imagery of the job site area.

Street View helps field crews recognize the property before arrival, identify proper access points, and spot potential equipment restrictions like low-hanging power lines or narrow driveways. This virtual site preview reduces confusion and improves first-time arrival success rates.

Use the navigation arrows in Street View to move along the street and rotate the view 360 degrees. This virtual walk-through provides valuable context about the job site environment without requiring an in-person visit.

Map and Directions

Below the project map, you'll find a "Get Directions" button that opens Google Maps with directions from your current location to the job site. This integration provides turn-by-turn navigation for field crews traveling to the project.

The directions button works on both desktop and mobile devices. On mobile, it automatically opens the Google Maps app if installed, providing seamless handoff to dedicated navigation software.

Updating Project Location

If the map marker appears in the wrong location, you can adjust it directly from the project map. Click the "Edit Location" button to enable map editing mode, then drag the marker to the correct position. The system automatically updates the project's GPS coordinates when you save.

This manual adjustment capability is essential when automatic geocoding places markers incorrectly, a common issue with rural addresses, new developments, or areas with complex property layouts.

Printing and Sharing

The project map can be printed as part of project documentation or work orders. When you print a project record, the map image is included, providing field crews with a visual reference of the job site location.

The map also appears on customer-facing documents like proposals and invoices when you enable the "Include Map" option in document settings. This helps customers understand exactly where the work will be performed.
