About this test
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a family of man-made 'forever chemicals' that do not break down in the environment and build up in the body over time. They reach private wells from industrial discharge, landfills, wastewater, and firefighting-foam training sites - and they are completely invisible, with no taste, smell, or color. The EPA finalized the first national drinking-water limits for several PFAS in 2024, and concern has grown sharply alongside the spread of data centers and manufacturing. This kit screens your water for the PFAS compounds most relevant to private wells so you know whether they are present and at what level.
Why it matters
PFAS are linked in research to effects on the immune system, cholesterol, and certain cancers, and they accumulate in the body rather than flush out. Because no routine well test - including the bacteria and nitrate samples your driller takes - looks for PFAS, the only way to know if your water is affected is a dedicated test. If PFAS are found, certified filtration such as reverse osmosis or activated carbon can sharply reduce them.

- What are PFAS and where do they come from?
- PFAS are man-made 'forever chemicals' used in nonstick, waterproof, and firefighting products. They reach wells from industrial sites, landfills, wastewater, and firefighting-foam training areas, and they persist in water and soil for decades.
- Can my driller or a standard test detect PFAS?
- No. The bacteria and nitrate samples required for most wells do not include PFAS, and PFAS have no taste, color, or odor. A dedicated PFAS test is the only way to detect them.
- What do I do if PFAS are found in my water?
- Switch to an alternate source for drinking and cooking while you act, and install a certified PFAS-reduction system - typically reverse osmosis or activated carbon. Retest after treatment to confirm it is working.
